What:
Inventing the leading brand for original online animation.
When: 1998-2000
Project Challenge:
After designing, producing and launching cartoonnetwork.com to phenomenal success, it was a natural progression for Funny Garbage (FG) to create new forms of content appropriate to the brand identity of the site. Along with cartoonnetwork.com Creative Director, Sam Register, we developed a series of highly popular interactive animations branded as Web Premier Toons (WPT).
How did we do it?
The debut series, “The Pink Donkey and The Fly” , features the work of Gary Panter, best known for creating the designs and characters for the groundbreaking children’s television program Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. FG went on to produce “B. Happy” with Mark Newgarden, “Coot Country” with Panter, a re-launch of “Banana Splits” and numerous other original web cartoons.
WPT demonstrates two significant aspects of our production capacity: our inventiveness and our technological capabilities. FG was the leader in creating a new medium based upon the idea that traditional character-based animation could be made interactive without sacrificing its established values. FG’s application of Flash technology was so successful that the software developer, Macromedia, consulted with FG while developing updated versions of the software.
