What: Funny Garbage creates a solution for accessing a global catalog of video and audio, providing a simple interface which can retrieve a massive amount of content.
Where: www.instavid.com, www.musicinformation.com
When: January 2000-September 2000
How did we do it?
Warner Music Group approached Funny Garbage (FG) to create a web site that would integrate the massive video repertoire of their many subsidiary labels. Our goal was to create a content repository that customized user access according to nationality and genre yet was easy to navigate. We offered users of every stripe the central source for video online, while promoting Warner Music’s music catalog.
FG developed an information architecture that would enable users to access Warner Music’s vast video archive from one page. Our graphic designers created a site with a visual identity that could represent dozens of separate labels and hundreds of different artists in one template.
FG’s passion for music enabled us to go that extra mile. Instavid.com put the artists first, providing music lovers what they want out of a video site while strengthening the constituent parts of the Warner Music brand. MusicInformation.com, a related site, turned a simple data collection tool into an evocative, interactive experience.
Why was it successful?
- Warner Music Group has a vast amount of music content from a myriad of labels, genres, countries, and artists, and needs to cross-promote all of these properties.
- FG’s information architects work these complicated business rules into a simple interface, allowing users to access the massive video and audio catalog.
- FG’s graphic designers fit a vast array of information into the site’s interface and create a design that can accommodate any artist, genre, or region.
- FG’s solution allows for customization, yet enables all the content to bubble up to the very surface of the site.
