What: Funny Garbage creates front-end design and back-end content management system for The N, a joint Nickelodeon/Sesame Street cable channel and website.

How did we do it?
Noggin approached Funny Garbage to build a web site to promote The N, the network’s new cable channel designated for the “tween” audience. Our goal was to craft a site that captured the fun and creativity of The N channel and provide a true online community for The N’s audience, as they navigate the tumultuous years of adolescence.
Using PHP and Oracle, our design and technology teams worked together to develop a modular site whose content dynamically updates to reflect user preferences and on-air programming. Homepage promotables drive users deeper into the site based on The N’s weekly schedule, and the navigation elements are flexible so they can be updated as the site’s well of content expands. FG created a custom avatar builder for each user to create a visual identity online, and a customized Message Board application that dynamically relates to content throughout the site. Our interactive design team also developed an updatable rotating Flash feature to showcase The N’s top offerings.
FG’s expertise with youth culture and interactivity allowed us to partner with Noggin to develop both their online infrastructure and online content. FG helped Noggin establish its on-air and on-line identity, develop and prioritize content, and strategize innovative ways to merge television with the web. Our website provided The N and its audience with a unique and dynamic destination.

- FG’s graphic designers create a modular design that accommodates the site’s content as it evolves. A revolving Flash feature on the home page evokes the feel of on-air, while drawing traffic to The N’s on-air priorities.
- FG’s technology department combines php and Oracle to provide The N with a customized content management tool to update their site on an ongoing basis.
