How did we do it?
Funny Garbage (FG) worked with not-for-profit organization Global AIDS Alliance and public policy marketing agency Carol/Trevelyan Strategy Group (CTSG) to create a portal website with activist tools for the Stop Global AIDS Campaign. Our goal was to create a welcoming environment where average citizens could influence their political leaders through simple and direct contact, making activists out of everyday people.
FG designed the site in contrast with most AIDS-related materials online to give the project a sense of encouragement rather than hopelessness. Once the designs and basic site structure were built, the Action Center pages were then implemented by CTSG using asp to dynamically enhance the activist tools. Visitors to the site can find out who their local politicians are and send them a personalized email letter or fax regarding impending legislation, The process takes only a few minutes time and has proven very effective.
Visitors can also sign up for email updates about new actions, as well as learn how to help their own community cope with the spread of HIV and AIDS by providing basic facts about the epidemic and the campaign. The site also profiles successful past actions to give a sense of accomplishment, as well as links which comment on how the media portrays the AIDS epidemic. |
