What: Funny Garbage partnered with children’s cable network Noggin to re-launch their online presence in conjunction with their on-air re-branding campaign in the Spring of 2003.
Where: http://www.noggin.com
When: Fall 2002 - Spring 2003
How did we do it?
A central challenge of the project was creating an engaging interactive environment with an educational focus that blended seamlessly with Noggin’s commercial brand identity. Additionally, the site is designed for multiple audiences – pre-literate pre-schoolers and their parents or caregivers. From the non-textual, visual navigation system to the extensive Flash animation on the homepage, FG integrated sound and movement into every aspect of the site in order to provide aural and visual cues and feedback for kids of all levels.
Another key element of the site is the convergent and complimentary relationship with the on-air programming. With the goal of creating a Noggin “universe” where audience-generated creative content feeds the brand, and the brand is accessible and active from the computer screen as well as the television screen, the two platforms present a cohesive whole that demonstrates that Noggin is a place not just FOR kids but OF kids.
Why was it successful?
Noggin.com offers a playful, interactive environment designed for pre-school age children and their parents. Functionally simple with a sophisticated design aesthetic, the site presents educational activities and games featuring the beloved Noggin hosts Moosey Moose and Zee, as well as the whole roster of characters from Noggin’s shows, including Blue’s Clues, Franklin, Miffy, Bob the Builder, Maisy, Tweenies, Oobi and others.
The site’s activities are varied and purposeful, with the goal of providing young children an exciting sense of empowerment, achievement and development in a safe, nurturing and vibrant environment. |
